I first reached out to Rose Family law in 2019 to schedule an initial consultation. I rescheduled this appointment, giving 48 hours notice. I unfortunately had to cancel the second appointment at short notice as I had to attend a family funeral. 3 years passed before I reached out a week ago to schedule a new appointment. In the meantime, the prospect of mediation surfaced and I shared this with the firm, a full day prior to our meeting, indicating that I wanted to give this an opportunity before proceeding with a consultation. I was shocked to receive an email stating that because I had cancelled 3 times to date, I should seek the services of another law firm in the future. Having spent 25 years at a major financial institution, cancellations were very much the norm as it was recognized that prospective clients needed the space to navigate their options in an ever evolving personal and professional environment. My role and livelihood would have been at risk if I ever wrote to a client asking them to consult another financial institution because after 3 attempts, we would rather they went elsewhere. A more sensitive response might have included encouraging my efforts at seeking mediation and reinstating their support if I ever needed it in the future. Needless to say, this was a mind blowing and deeply dehumanizing experience.
